This error occurs because by default Windows 10 uses a HyperV and this is incompatible with VMWare. If you want to use Docker then you would be fine, but using two different virtualisation technologies is currently not possible on Windows 10.
So for anyone else who wants to use VMWare the fix is relatively simple: disable HyperV.
